MJ History

Mahjong, also called “ma que”and “que pai”, is authentic the quintessence of China. In China, playingmahjong is a popular entertainment, mahjong rooted from “Ma diao” and poker games since Ming dynasty, and “Ma diao” and poker games came from the oldest game in China that called “Bo xi”. The China chess and pokers all basic on this “Bo xi”game.

It is hard to affirm when the oldest “Bo xi” begun. In《Shih chi》, it said that the “Bo xi ”begun before Yin Dynasty.

The oldest “Bo xi” called “Liu Bo”, there were 6 bamboo made bars and 12 chesses, the bamboo made bars, are something like the dice we use now in mahjong.

From 《stemmata of Yins》, “Bo xi ”is divided into “Big bo” and “Small bo”, the rules of “Big bo” is unknown now, and the rules of “Small bo” are written in some books.





Transformation of Mahjong

After Han Dynasty and Wei Dynasty, “Bo xi” changed into entire different format. “Bo xi” developed to another way, and the tools in “Bo xi” developed to dice.
